Miller said that while making what he expects to be a nine-day run to Dubuque, he ll be thinking about the victims, correctional officer Robert McFarland and prison nurse Lorena Schulte. He said McFarland would take the time to help anyone and Schulte was a devoted caregiver.

Miller said that while making what he expects to be a nine-day run to Dubuque, he ll be thinking about the victims, correctional officer Robert McFarland and prison nurse Lorena Schulte. He said McFarland would take the time to help anyone and Schulte was a devoted caregiver.  He said that by raising awareness through his run he hopes to get people to think more about the Iowa Department of Corrections staff and donate to a fundraiser to send the McFarland family on a vacation. I know I can do it, but how many days in a row, we ll find out,  Miller told the Press-Citizen. This is a first-time thing for me so when we talk about something that challenges yourself, this is definitely going to be that for me.

View Comments A correctional officer at Anamosa State Penitentiary suffered a minor injury Wednesday while restraining an unruly prisoner, prison officials said.  The prisoner became violent during a disciplinary hearing over video chat, according to a statement by the Iowa Department of Corrections. Though in restraints for the hearing, the inmate became unruly enough that the correctional officer supervising the hearing called for assistance from a second officer, according to the statement. In the course of containing the inmate, the second officer suffered a soft-tissue injury to his arm. He was treated at a local hospital and released. The identity of the inmate was not released. Neither the inmate nor the other correctional officer was injured, officials said.
