A correctional officer from Anamosa State Penitentiary is making a 339-mile run across the state in honor of the two employees killed during an alleged escape attempt at the prison in March.
Ryan Miller, 36, of Manchester, began the journey about 7 a.m. Friday in Sioux City.
Miller said that while making what he expects to be a nine-day run to Dubuque, he ll be thinking about the victims, correctional officer Robert McFarland and prison nurse Lorena Schulte. He said McFarland would take the time to help anyone and Schulte was a devoted caregiver.
