KUNA, Idaho Kuna Middle School history teachers Meeka Kay and Amber Orozco say they ve earned the combined nickname Krayzco. We are willing to have pie thrown in our face at the pep assemblies, or we re willing to dress up in ridiculous costumes so that learning can take place or some joy can happen throughout the day, Kay said.
The pair dresses up for events like Colonial Day and Fancy Friday.

COUNCIL, Idaho A project to help students become more self-reliant has taken root at Council Elementary School. Teacher Misti Cook calls it the Roots of Self-reliance Project. Our students grew from roots of self-reliance as they came from homesteaders. That was really in their roots, and the kids had gotten away from that, Cook said. They d gotten away from healthy eating and from eating from the land.
She started the project in February. Now, the K-6 students are the ones sowing the seeds - a lot of seeds - in the school s greenhouse.

KUNA, Idaho A sensory path now adorns a patch of pavement on the playground at Reed Elementary School in Kuna. The painted path of straight lines, crooked lines, spirals, dots, and boxes, functions like an obstacle course.
Students jump from line to line, spin on a spiral, walk a painted tightrope and play hopscotch. It s a place where students can go to move their bodies and work on motor development, but it s really a place where students can go and get away from learning, Reed Elementary School Vice Principal Justine Burgess said.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho When kids learn to play chess, they can also learn to think deeply about the decisions they make in life. Felicity Steers stands by that philosophy and that s why she rallied to get the game of chess into her third-grade classroom at New Plymouth Elementary School. There are so many things that go along with chess, Steers said. It s not just playing a game. At the very basic level before you put the pieces on the board you are learning graphing skills, Knight to E4, and you have to be able to find those coordinates. So even before the pieces are there there s math involved. Definitely, critical thinking skills, knowing how many pieces to move, thinking ahead, that strategy, a lot of advanced math is multiple steps so having that step by step game of
