Motor Vu Drive-In to open Friday
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Following major renovations and upgrades, the Motor Vu Drive-In is officially reopening for the 2021 summer season on Friday with a double-feature on Idaho’s largest movie screen.
During the off-season, the Motor Vu underwent the most extensive renovations in its history to upgrade the facilities and improve movie and sound quality.
The projector room, which has held every projector since the Motor Vu’s opening in 1947, was redone, and sound processors and transmitters have been upgraded.
The most dramatic upgrade is the new 4K laser projector which creates a crisp, clear picture on the Motor Vu’s 108 foot screen, one of the largest screens in the United States.

After a school year like no other, Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA), an online public school serving K-12 students throughout the state since 2002, will celebrate its graduates with one virtual commencement ceremony and three regional in-person ceremonies throughout the state for students and families that would like to attend. One of the ceremonies is a unique “Drive-In” theatre style experience, held at the MotorVu Drive In, in Idaho Falls on May 18
th at 8pm.
In the age of COVID, note that these drive-thru ceremonies provide a safe, socially distant way for students to be recognized by staff in-person. There is no requirement or obligation to attend. Students will have the option of taking photos at the photo booth set-up for them and to mingle with other graduates in a safe way.
H.K. and Angela Smith are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Lexi to Mitch Mingo, son of Darwin and Julie Mingo of Rockland, Idaho. They will be married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on May 18, 2021. Lexi graduated from the Idaho Virtual Academy with honors in 2017. She then continued her education in the honors program at Idaho State University, where she is participating in the nursing program. Mitch graduated from Rockland High School with honors in 2016 and was salutatorian. Following high school Mitch went on to serve a mission in New Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2016-2018. After returning from his mission he found his way to Idaho State where he obtained his degrees in On-Site Power and Diesel Technology in May of 2021. They met on the Institute Council at ISU. The couple will live in Rockland for the summer before returning to Pocatello in the fall for Lexi to finish her education. No formal r
