The Farooq Abdullah-led People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, a coalition of seven regional parties, has won over 100 seats in the District Development Council elections held in Jammu and Kashmir as of Wednesday morning, PTI reported. The Bharatiya Janata Party, meanwhile, emerged as the single-largest party.
A total of 2,178 candidates were contesting in these elections – the first since the erstwhile state lost its special status under the Constitution on August 5, 2019. The State Election Commission had stopped the counting of votes for Drugmulla constituency till further orders citing that a candidate had filled wrong information in Form 6 about her identity. PDP has said that if EC had problems then they should have flagged it before the elections were held.

The seven-party Gupkar alliance led by Farooq Abdullah was ahead in the seat tally in the maiden District Development Council polls in Jammu and Kashmir by winning or leading in 112 seats out of 280 on Tuesday, followed by the BJP which emerged as the single largest party as it won 73 seats including three in the Kashmir valley for the first time.
The People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has bagged 100 seats and was leading in 12 others, according to data from the union territory s election commission. Forty-seven Independents, mainly disgruntled leaders from all political parties, have been declared winners and six more were leading in other seats.
