Ordinance Would Increase Penalties For Emergency Health Hazards In Springfield

By WMAY Newsroom Facebook / Erin For Ward 8 Penalties for allowing conditions that constitute an “emergency health hazard” in Springfield would increase substantially under an ordinance proposed by Alderwoman Erin Conley. Hazards such as sanitation issues or rodent infestations on properties in the city could lead to fines of up to $5,000 a day until the problem is corrected. Conley says she introduced the ordinance after having difficulty getting a rat infestation cleaned up at a property in her ward.

Mayor, Springfield directors will hear from citizens at ward meetings

Kirby teaches Organizational Development and Organizational Behavior at Millikin. The discussions will be used to gather feedback on projects for each ward along with the city overall. Julia Frevert, a spokeswoman for the city, said Mayor Jim Langfelder planned to attend all of the ward meetings with the directors of the city departments, including Police Chief Kenny Winslow and Fire Chief Brandon Blough. Residents are invited to attend any of the forums, Frevert said. The meeting for Wards 9 and 10, represented by Alds. Jim Donelan and Ralph Hanauer respectively, will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 2200 Meadowbrook Rd., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. June 2.

Capitol Fax com - Your Illinois News Radar » Dems pack tons of Republicans together

McConchie getting relief and Bailey-Plummer, with Bailey running statewide (at least for now) helps (for lack of a better description I guess) in looking at how the party might make “changes by the map” and re-establish some of the pre-Rauner/Trump mentality to party, winning, and viability all over the state. It’s like growing pains, but by packing districts it allows some serious discussions, choices, and a fork in the road to who or what the party is and can be in these next 10 years. Even if those districts do remove 2 or 3 of Eastern Bloc guys it doesn’t mean IL GOP will moderate itself. Party rank and file are strongly with Trump and will elect someone who represents their views. Times have changed. The Edgar, Thompson, and Topinka wing of party will find themselves at home with Dems.

One vote away | WTAX 93 5FM/1240AM

Photo: Saga Communications City council Tuesday advanced the Legacy Pointe sports project. It’s supposed to host tournaments with youth teams from around the Midwest, helping the local hospitality industry. Supporters around the horseshoe say the financial risk is little to none. When Ald. Erin Conley asked developer Steve Lueker who would own the place if things don’t work out, the answer was, “Um … probably the bank.” Mayor Langfelder said there will never be a better time than now. Next week is scheduled to be the final vote to get it started. The indoor – outdoor center, planned for land near Scheels, is to be paid for with hotel-motel tax revenues.

Can council count to seven? | WTAX 93 5FM/1240AM

3 weeks ago in Local Photo: Shutterstock For the six city council members who want to rein in Mayor Langfelder’s spending, their job in the next two weeks is to persuade one of the other four – Alds. Shawn Gregory, Roy Williams, John Fulgenzi, or Joe McMenamin – to flip. It takes seven to override a veto. The ordinance reduces Langfelder’s ability to spend money without running it by the council. The current limit is $50,000, but the ordinance, sponsored by Ald. Ralph Hanauer, cuts it to $10,000. Ald. Erin Conley told WTAX News after Tuesday’s meeting that, with no economic development director on staff and with many federal dollars coming in, somebody has to manage both the income, the spending, and rigorous regulations.
