Penalties for allowing conditions that constitute an “emergency health hazard” in Springfield would increase substantially under an ordinance proposed by Alderwoman Erin Conley.
Hazards such as sanitation issues or rodent infestations on properties in the city could lead to fines of up to $5,000 a day until the problem is corrected.
Conley says she introduced the ordinance after having difficulty getting a rat infestation cleaned up at a property in her ward.
