SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday approved a $3 million road improvement project.
The projects include repaving Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the southbound lanes from the city limits to the “Y” intersection, all of Spruce Ave and Pioneer Trail to Blackwood Ave.
The Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Spruce Ave parts of the project already had funding allocated but the Pioneer Trail section required an additional $2 million be moved from the general fund. That $2 million was part of the money raised through Measure S.
The council also took a first step in addressing many of the city’s worst drainage issues, some of which have caused the degradation of roads.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday night approved a traffic study to look into a possible Loop Road alternative.
The US 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project, known as the Loop Road, is meant to create a main street area in the casino corridor by redirecting U.S. Highway 50.
The plan, which is led by Tahoe Transportation District, would require housing units in the Rocky Point Neighborhood to be torn down, something council has said it is against.
On Feb. 2, they approved a resolution to pursue an alternative route which would keep the neighborhood intact.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday took the first step towards approving curbside pickup for cannabis dispensaries.
The council received the annual cannabis business review during which it heard from all five permit holders.
The businesses are required to pay a 6% community benefit fee. In 2019/20 the city collected $850,000 from that fee and in the first few months of 2020/21 they collected nearly $100,000.
Each of the owners spoke to need to have curbside pick-up. Curbside pick-up is allowed temporarily under California’s emergency COVID order so the council decided to follow the state’s lead.
City staff will bring back the order at the next meeting. The council also would like to know about the possibility of extending the rule after the pandemic is over.
