Man yells profanity at people in front of the Arch A man yelled profanity at people taking graduate photos at the Arch on May 5 around 10:30 a.m., according to a University of Georgia Police Department report. A woman visiting UGA told police the man was yelling racial slurs and had threatened her group of friends who were taking photos. The man told police he was protesting UGA policies. The man said the woman’s group had approached him, asking if he could move so they could take graduation pictures. The man denied yelling any racial slurs, but admitted he did yell profanity at them and called them “Nazis,” according to the report.

Floor collapse at Athens house party injures 25

Editor’s note: Douglas’ last name has been withheld to protect from retaliation.  Early Friday morning, the floor collapsed at a house party on Magnolia Bluff Drive. 25 people sustained minor injuries. Many attendees fell from the first floor of the home into the crawl space below. Minor injuries were reported, according to Athens-Clarke County Fire & Emergency Services.  The number of attendees inside at the time of the collapse is disputed, but Lt. Shaun Barnett of the ACC Police Department estimated roughly 200 were present at the time. News outlets have reported there were 500 people at the party. A civic alert from the ACC Fire & Emergency Services said there were close to 500 people at the scene.
