A Gwinnett County man was arrested early Saturday after Athens-Clarke police said he stabbed a bar employee in the face with a knife while he was being removed from the establishment.
The assault occurred about 2 a.m. at Topper’s on North Jackson Street, when police said Jewell Leon Clay, 29, of Lawrenceville was being escorted out of the bar for a reason unclear at the time the officer filed his report.
Once outside the bar, police said Clay hit the 19-year-old employee in the face and a witness told police he saw a knife in the suspect’s hand.
The witness, a 30-year-old Athens man, tackled Clay and wrestled the knife from his hand, according to the report. However, police said the witness was cut on the arm.
