Journalist Ret Talbot to lead workshop on Seafood Sustainability

(Photo courtesy Good Tern Co-op) ROCKLAND  Local science writer, journalist and author Ret Talbot will take a deep dive into seafood and seafood sustainability as part of the Good Tern Co-op’s ongoing online event series. Talbot will start his talk by defining sustainable seafood, then focus on how to better understand the most common choices presented to the sustainably-minded consumer when buying seafood. Participants will also receive several recipes and preparation tips that will make eating sustainable seafood even more enjoyable. The workshop is free and will take place online on Wednesday, May 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This event is co-sponsored by Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association, and a member of MCFA will be on hand to answer specific questions about local seafood.

Local poets to celebrate National Poetry Month with online readings

The poetry night will be held online on April 29, 2021, from 7 to 8 p.m. The event is part of the Good Tern’s Education and Outreach Committee’s continuing series of community classes and events. Participating poets are Frances Vigeant, Eileen Hugo, Phelps Bristol, Lois Anne, Sarah Trapani, Colleen Gleason, Jeannie Harsha, Dana Wildes, Bill Eberle, and Paul McFarland.

Rockland Harborside Cleanup

Sunday, April 25, 2021 - 9:45am to 12:00pm ROCKLAND   The Good Tern Co-op is hosting a community Harborside Cleanup to celebrate Earth Day. The event will be held Sunday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Rockland Harbor Park. Participants will be meeting at 9:45 a.m., then breaking into multiple groups to clean up along the Rockland Harbor Trail. The Rockland Harbor Trail, run by the Rockland Harbor Trail Committee, stretches from Snow Marine Park to the Breakwater. Most cleanup areas are within walking distance, but there is the option to drive, bike, or skateboard to different locations. A Rockland Harborside Cleanup Map has been created to show the locations of cleanup areas. This map will be available online on the Eventbrite registration page, Facebook, and physically at the event.

Wed, 04/07/2021 - 3:45pm ROCKPORT Rockport police reported the following activity from Feb. 2-April 2. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Feb. 14 Elissa Bower, 23, of Rockport, was issued summonses by Officer Celjeta Bixhaku for operating under the influence, inspection sticker and operating a motor vehicle with an expired license. Feb. 20 Stephanie Aiken, 37, of Union, was issued summonses by Bixhaku for inspection sticker and proof of insurance. Feb. 27 James Lalor, 55, of Hope, was arrested by Officer Antonio Del Vecchio for operating under the influence.
