Doyle pushes salary policy | News, Sports, Jobs

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG The Blair County Salary Board should come up with a compensation policy that recognizes the worth of the employees and lifts them out of poverty, President Judge Elizabeth Doyle told the board Thursday. Despite initial disappointment with the salary board’s decision to delay scheduled action on employee raises linked to the recently-completed salary study, Doyle said she was happy to learn of the board’s pursuit of a compensation policy because it means the salary study won’t be a final step in addressing employee pay inequities and turnover. “My request of the human beings that make up this salary board is to please create a compensation policy that values the employees as the county’s greatest asset,” Doyle said.

Suspect requests trial as juvenile | News, Sports, Jobs

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG Efforts on behalf of an Altoona teenager seeking to have second-degree murder and related charges transferred to juvenile court will resume today in Blair County Court. Defense attorney Thomas M. Dickey, representing Logan Persing, who was 16 years old on Feb. 25, 2020, when he and two other teenagers allegedly initiated a robbery that led to the shooting death of 15-year-old Devon Pfirsching, offered witnesses Thursday in support of moving the charges out of adult court. President Judge Elizabeth Doyle, who is convening the hearing through video transmissions, will render a decision in the future. She has already ruled that first-degree murder and related criminal charges against Persing’s co-defendant, Owen Southerland, accused of firing the fatal shot that killed Pfirsching in the alley on the 100 block of Fourth Avenue, will remain in adult court.

Judge, DA not up to speed on crash case | News, Sports, Jobs

(Editor’s note: This letter was published with incorrect information on Monday. It has since been updated.) In her ruling published last week regarding the road rage that killed Zachary Peterman, Judge Elizabeth Doyle said she could not uphold the speeding charges because there was no timing device, yet the state police investigators found Peterman was going 74 MPH when he crashed. Brad Confer admits to just passing him on the 35 MPH road before the crash. How is the PSP investigation findings not relevant to the speeding charge? Confer admits to the crime. Confer also admits to trying to pass Peterman three times on the left at those speeds before he finally passed him on the right.

Judge OKs reckless driving charge against Tyrone man | News, Sports, Jobs

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG A summary offense of reckless driving can be added to the traffic citations filed against a Tyrone man who allegedly engaged in a high-speed chase with a motorcyclist who crashed and died. The reckless driving charge against Brad Confer of Tyrone is expected to be addressed at Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller’s office where Confer has two pending summary traffic citations in connection with the June 1, 2019, incident. “In light of the judge’s ruling, the additional charge will be pursued,” Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks said Monday. “But I’m not sure yet, procedurally, as to how that’s going to happen.”
