Of the ₹1,000 crore outlay for the Smart Cities Mission in the city, projects worth around ₹100 crore of the total cost are complete nearly five years after Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), the special purpose vehicle executing the project, was formed.
Govt. to introduce new projects to save electricity A set of projects that will take care of the need for quality power supply in Kochi city and surrounding areas over three to four decades, including Kerala’s first 220-kV gas-insulated substation, was inaugurated on Monday by Electricity Minister M.M. Mani at a programme organised on the Kaloor premises of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
The facilities commissioned on Monday include the 7-km underground Thuthiyoor-Kaloor 220-kV cable system and the Brahmapuram-Thuthiyoor 220/110-kV multi-circuit-multi-voltage line.
The Minister said the KSEB was looking ahead with state-of-the-art projects to ensure steady power supply. He said the Board was looking forward to getting a positive report on the proposal for starting a second power generation unit at the Idukki hydroelectric generation facility, for which a study was being conducted by a Central agency. Bridges wing submits estimate of ₹5 lakh for work
The gaps that have been developing between embankment and girders of Ernakulam North overbridge will be repaired shortly by the Public Works Department (Bridges wing).
The four-lane bridge was built in 2013 by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC), as part of Kochi metro’s preparatory works. Its defect-liability period expired a year later. Motorists especially two and three-wheeler riders have ever since been complaining of the gaps at either end of the bridge, which hamper a smooth ride through its surface.
IFFK office inaugurated

Senior filmmaker Joshiy inaugurated the organising committee office of the Kochi edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) here on Friday.
The office will function at the headquarters of the Malayalam Cine Technicians’ Association (MACTA) at Ernakulam North. Mayor M. Anilkumar presided over the function. Actor Joju George and MACTA chairman Jayaraj were among those who attended.
The Kochi edition of the fest will be held from February 17 to 21. The distribution of passes will be held from February 15. The participants have to submit a COVID-19 negative certificate 48 hours before the start of the fest.
