ELY – “The real crusher was that Friday was so much fun,” said Adam Zins as he and his wife, Tanja, tried to untangle a wire shelving unit early Saturday morning from under a mangled tent. All around them, in the middle of Whiteside Park, was what remained of the Blueberry/Art Festival. “It looked like a war zone.”
A line of thunderstorms with damaging 70-mph winds driving torrential rains hit Ely at about 6:30 p.m. Friday night, just as the first leg of the three-day Blueberry/Art Festival was wrapping up.
The short but severe storm destroyed scores of arts vendors’ displays and tents, and uprooted big trees in the park, prompting Ely Chamber of Commerce officials late Friday to cancel the remainder of the 2021 festival.

On Saturday night, around 50 people in black bloc descended on the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in a pre-announced riot. The facility is among one of many government buildings targeted and set on fire dozens of times over the past 11 months by far-left rioters. Five of the seven arrested over the riots have been previously accused of or convicted for their role in other Black Lives Matter-Antifa riots.
Portland-Area Prosecutor Charges Three After Rioting on May Day
The prosecutor overseeing Portland on Monday filed charges against three people arrested during rioting on May Day.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt opted to charge three of the six people initially taken into custody.
Phoebe Loomis faces charges of felony riot and criminal mischief after allegedly smashing windows at two different Starbucks locations and at Sasse Wellness & Med Spa on May 1. Damages at each location are estimated to cost more than $1,000 to repair.
When Loomis was arrested, police officers found a bent metal bar in her possession.
Quang Nguyen was charged with felony riot, criminal mischief, and attempted criminal mischief. According to Schmidt’s office, Nguyen destroyed a window at a Starbucks before trying, but failing, to destroy a window at two other Starbucks in downtown Portland.

Two separate groups took to the street Saturday night and clashed with law enforcement, prompting authorities to declare a riot downtown and an unlawful assembly in south Portland.
Phoebe Loomis is facing one count of felony riot and three counts of criminal mischief in the first degree.
