Raleigh, N.C. Salisbury s football team waited nearly 17 months for the opportunity to avenge its 34-0 loss to Shelby in the state championship game. And on Thursday, the Hornets finally got to seize that opportunity with a 42-21 win over St. Pauls to lift the 2AA title at Carter Finley Stadium.
Things didn t always go smoothly this season for the Hornets (9-2, 4-2 Central Carolina 2A), who received a wild card bid to the postseason after finishing third in their conference behind North Davidson and Oak Grove. But while they may not have gotten to claim the conference crown, the second state championship trophy in program history will have to suffice.
