This tourist season is much different than last year s as summer fun-seekers are flocking to Put-in-Bay now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Bar and restaurant owners across the city say it’s returning to it’s pre-pandemic highs, but there are still steps that need to happen to truly return to normal. Following the state’s and city’s COVID-19 restrictions being lifted, the number of visitors to the island city has skyrocketed.

PUT-IN-BAY - Businesses of all kinds are prepping for the seasonal surge of visitors to this summer island hotspot with a unified voice and singular message in mind. Following the unprecedented circumstances of the global COVID-19 pandemic, island businesses are looking to rebound from a very up and down tourist season in 2020.  “We have all lived through 2020 and we’re ready to put that behind us,” said Eric Booker, co-owner of The Boardwalk restaurant, a longtime Put-in-Bay foodie staple renowned for its lobster bisque. “I’m extremely excited for the 2021 season.” How Put-in-Bay is revitalizing its brand  This year, a team comprised of business owners, village officials and marketing professionals is hoping to revitalize Put-in-Bay’s brand “rekindling” its identity as “an everyday island getaway,” according to Brad Ohlemacher, chairman of the Safe Island Task Force and owner of the Bird’s Nest Resort.

Eric Booker, who also goes by ‘Head Perkins,’ according to the arrest affidavit, was arrested on Dec. 28 on charges of aggravated robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and deadly conduct. On Nov. 30, officers responded to the Ward Plaza Apartments on Martin Luther King after receiving a call of someone discharging a gun. They found and interviewed a victim who told the officers that armed men had broken into his home and robbed him. He said they put a gun at his head and demanded guns and cash from him.
