The Ste. Genevieve and Valle Catholic softball programs wound up playing each other a whopping four times during the 2021 season.
For the second time this year, the Dragons topped the Warriors by three runs this time, 6-3, at Leon’s Field on Thursday afternoon.
This marked Senior Day, with both Ste. Genevieve and Valle Catholic seniors walking to the middle of the infield for special recognition.
Ste. Genevieve has five seniors while Valle Catholic has two in Macy Shuh and Lexi Van Elzen. The Dragons seniors are Brittney Kreitler, Autumn Basler, Morgan Schwent, Emma Johns and Briana Watts.
How about adding a softball record to your resume, Ms. Kreitler?
That’s exactly what Brittney did on Friday belting her 16th double of the season in a 12-2 five-inning victory over Grandview at Leon’s Field.
“Brittney is a special player,” Ste. Genevieve coach Russell Toombs said of the Mineral Area College pledge. “She works really hard to be on top of her game.”
What’s more, Toombs decided to give Kreitler the starting nod inside the circle. She didn’t disappoint there, either.
Kreitler allowed two runs (only one earned) on two hits with one walk and one strikeout over five innings. Thirty-seven of Brittney’s 54 pitches were strikes or nearly 69 percent.
In addition to the 11 partner appointments, 18 directors have also recently been announced.
