Opinion | Disha Ravi, Nikita Jacob were pawns in an international conspiracy to tarnish Modi
The arrest of 22-year-old student activist Disha Ravi from Bengaluru by Delhi Police has raised eyebrows in certain circles, even as police teams are hunting for Bombay High Court lawyer Nikita Jacob and an engineer Shantanu Muluk in Maharashtra, who have gone underground, seeking legal protection from arrest. The larger picture that emerges is that these three were pawns in an international conspiracy to defame India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
I was surprised initially when Delhi Police arrested the college student Disha Ravi and brought her to the capital. My initial reaction was, how could a college girl indulge in an act of sedition? But as more evidences emerged, it now appears there was a big conspiracy planned by people sitting in different countries to create mayhem on Indiaâs Republic Day this year.

Long admired in India for their educational and professional achievements, Indian Americans have now got another feather in their cap - they have become politically relevant both in the US and India.
The political ascendency of Indian Americans in the US coincides with the ascent of Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India. Modi is exploiting the Indian Americans political progress in the US to his political advantage at home in India. The Howdy Modi circus in Houston Texas in September 2019 exemplified the nexus he has been seeking to establish.

Indian Americans, while broadly still supportive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have mixed opinions about India’s trajectory as a democracy, according to a new report released on Tuesday.
The Indian American Attitudes Survey, conducted in September 2020, recorded the responses of 1,200 Indian Americans to a series of questions on how connected they are to India and how they view Indian political developments. A significant 39% of the respondents believe India is currently on the wrong track, while 36% believe it is on the right track.
With a population of over 4 million, Indian Americans are now the second largest immigrant group in America, and wooing them has been an important element of the Modi government’s foreign policy. Support for him, the survey shows, is highest among Hindus and Republicans in the diaspora.
Stating that Modi had failed to address any of the issues raised by MPs, Viswam questioned his claim that the minimum support price (MSP) was part of the contentious farm laws.
