US energy lobby wants federal lands ban ended
The American Petroleum Institute (API) on April 15 called on the US interior secretary to lift the pause on new oil and gas leases on federal land for the sake of the economy and the environment.
President Joe Biden, in one of his first acts of office, paused new leasing of drilling rights on federal lands. After former president Donald Trump dismantled regulations for the sake of energy dominance, Biden’s move along the path of energy transition put the US oil and gas sector on its back foot.

UK s Cairn Energy Plc has offered to forego USD 500 million and invest that amount in any oil and gas or renewable energy project identified by the Indian government if New Delhi agrees to honour an international arbitration award and returns the value of loss it incurred because of being taxed retrospectively, sources said. The Scottish firm invested in the oil and gas sector in India in 1994 and a decade later it made a huge oil discovery in Rajasthan. In 2006-07, it listed its Indian assets on the BSE. Five years after that the government passed a retroactive tax law and billed Cairn Rs 10,247 crore plus interest and penalty for the reorganisation tied to the flotation.

US discusses energy transition with Saudi Arabia
On the eve of a pivotal meeting among OPEC and its allies, US energy secretary Jennifer Granholm said March 31 she had a “productive call” with her Saudi counterpart on the energy transition.
Granholm said she spoke by phone with Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Saudi energy minister, to discuss international cooperation on affordable and reliable energy sources.
“We also discussed closer collaboration to solve common challenges and develop renewable energy sources, increase efficiency, reduce methane in oil and gas production, and develop clean forms of hydrogen to combat climate change,” she said in a social media post.
