Hampton NH teacher, police officer Jack Donaldson memorial planned

HAMPTON – A life of service to others will be celebrated on May 16, when friends and family gather for a memorial service for the late John William “Jack” Donaldson. Donaldson, of Hampton, died on April 25, after a battle with cancer, but not before spending 84 years of life in service to his family and friends; Winnacunnet High School, where he taught for 38 years, and the Hampton’s Police Department, where he worked as a special officer for half a century. Retired Winnacunnet teacher and Hampton Falls Selectman Ed Beattie remembers working with Donaldson. By the time Beattie arrived at WHS in 1979, Donaldson had moved from the classroom to the technology end of education, Beattie said, running the school’s audio-visual department.

Hampton Falls couple named town s hog wranglers

Hampton Falls couple named town’s hog wranglers By Angeljean Chiaramida HAMPTON FALLS – The town has two new hog wranglers. According to Selectman Ed Beattie, Todd and Stephanie Santora were given the honor of being selected as Hampton Falls hog reeve and keeper of the pound for the coming year at Saturday’s deliberative session.  “I’ve already called him to come and a look at my sheep,” Beattie joked. A holdover office from the Colonial era, although the notion of a hog reeve brings chuckles today, the position goes back centuries in Hampton Falls, which celebrates its 300th anniversary next year. In centuries past, the job of hog reeve was common in towns throughout the state to protect communities from large hogs or other animals who broke out of their pens, causing havoc in neighborhoods, eating crops and damaging property.
