Miller, Thurman, Bulldogs meet their goals Published by admin on Wed, 02/03/2021 - 8:20am By:  Editor Riley Thurman and Mya Miller set a goal for themselves as a tandem before the start of Friday night’s game at Kirksville: they would combine to score 30 points. They didn’t. Instead, Miller recorded 19 and Thurman 12 – 31 points – as Mexico downed the Tigers 39-28. “Riley just had fast break after fast break,” Alexis Willer said. Most of these came in a fast paced spell that began midway through the second quarter and continued well into the third. Miller, Thurman and the rest of coach Ed Costley’s squad trampled Kirksville 19-0 over that stretch.

It’s a pattern that repeated on Saturday in the championship game of the Macon Tournament. Mexico girls batter Broofield | The Mexico Ledger

Mexico girls batter Broofield By:  Editor Brookfield learned something from their first encounter with Mexico back in December. They opened Monday’s encounter in the Macon Tournament in a zone, and it worked – for a few minutes. Once Mexico’s Bulldogs broke through they were near unstoppable, cruising to a 68-26 win to go 10-2 on the year. “At the beginning of the year teams didn’t know who we were,” explained Taylor DeMint. “When they play man, teams can’t stop us. The zone slows us down.” The Bulldogs began to edge away in the first. And when Ruby Haefling drained a three in the second, the faucet opened.

Mexico girls knock off Eugene | The Mexico Ledger

Mexico girls knock off Eugene Published by admin on Wed, 01/13/2021 - 8:05pm By:  Editor There were a few moments on Friday night when it looked as if Mexico’s winning ways might suffer a blow. Throughout the second half in Eugene, the host Eagles threatened to close within 10 points. But each time one of head coach Ed Costley’s squad would repair the damage. “We held on,” he said of the Bulldogs 56-43 road win, giving Mexico a 9-2 record heading into next week’s Macon Tournament. Eugene’s Kaydi Alderman made it an 8-point game, 31-23, two minutes into the third quarter. With Mexico in foul trouble, guard Riley Blevins was forced to post up against the big Eagles forwards.
