EDISON – Edison police officers are starring in a new police program called COP that, in spite of lacking dramatic plots, nevertheless scores high ratings with Edison Township residents.
COP is short for Community Oriented Policing, and its focus is on police officers working with individual community members as friends and neighbors –a boots-on-the-ground initiative whose primary weapons are listening, talking and finding solutions.

Indian American candidate Sam Joshi was victorious in the Democratic primary June 8 in his bid to become mayor of Edison, New Jersey.
Of all the June 8 primary elections â many taking place in New Jersey and Virginia â the Edison mayoral race was arguably the most hotly contested, with Joshi and Indian American Mahesh Bhagia among the three Democratic candidates running, along with Arthur Esposito.
Joshi won convincingly with 5,995 and 61.6 percent of the vote, roughly 30 points better than second-place Bhagia, who secured 3,185 votes for 32.7 percent. Esposito was a distant third with 546 votes for 5.6 percent.

EDISON – Have questions about gun permits and public safety?
Township police and a designee from the township administration will be answering residents’ questions at 7 p.m. Thursday during a virtual Community Oriented Policing chat session.

While the focus of the session will be on gun permits and public safety issues, the forum also will allow residents to talk about any township concern or issue.
Residents are encouraged to preregister on the Edison Township website under Zoom info. Questions can be submitted in advance to COP@Edisonpd.org.
