NEW DELHI: Indian American candidate Sam Joshi has won the Democratic primary for the post of mayor of Edison, New Jersey, a city with a large population of Indian Americans.
Unofficial results showed Joshi had secured 5,955 votes, while Edison Democratic chairman and fellow Indian American Mahesh Bhagia had 3,185 and Arthur Esposito had 546. Joshi will take on Republican W. Keith Hahn in the general election.
Indian American candidate Sam Joshi was victorious in the Democratic primary June 8 in his bid to become mayor of Edison, New Jersey.
Of all the June 8 primary elections â many taking place in New Jersey and Virginia â the Edison mayoral race was arguably the most hotly contested, with Joshi and Indian American Mahesh Bhagia among the three Democratic candidates running, along with Arthur Esposito.
Joshi won convincingly with 5,995 and 61.6 percent of the vote, roughly 30 points better than second-place Bhagia, who secured 3,185 votes for 32.7 percent. Esposito was a distant third with 546 votes for 5.6 percent.

In a dull primary season, a Democratic race for a single ward seat on the Woodbridge Township Council is drawing attention.
In the campaign for a First Ward seat, incumbent Nancy Bader-Drumm, backed by the party organization. is being challenged by Ken Gardner. Running unopposed on the GOP ticket is John Vrtaric.
Bader-Drumm, who represents Sewaren and Woodbridge Proper, is the membership director at the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce.
