Non-implementation of new rules delays elections to Pune housing societies
While most societies hold elections unopposed, the delay in formation of elected executive committees has left many of them grappling with legal problems. December 24, 2020 5:53:52 pm
Majority of the societies have seen elections held unopposed but politics does play its part in some.
Over 40 per cent of the 18,000 cooperative housing societies in Pune are awaiting directives from the Maharashtra government on holding elections to their executive committees. With no directive or advisory, thus far, all major decisions with regard to society work are on hold.
Since the 2014 reforms, holding of general elections for cooperative housing societies have become a legal necessity. The state cooperative election commissioner oversees these elections, which are held once in five years for formation of a new executive committee.

The drop comes after two continuous months of high vegetable prices as the harvest-ready crop was severely damaged due to the heavy rains in September and October. Pune’s market normally sees arrivals also from districts like Nashik, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Ahmednagar as well as from Karnataka.

Vasava’s letter comes on a day when the state government’s general administration department sanctioned two circles of management with a strength of 201 personnel for the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority, or SoU Tourism Authority (SoUTA). The personnel will be responsible for the operation and maintenance, water supply, sewage lines, roads, parking, lights as well as the decorative lighting in the area
