Even as close to 122 villages on the other side of the Statue of Unity across the River Narmada are on the edge after the local district administration initiated a process to include the area under the eco-sensitive zone as per a notification of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), BJP’s Bharuch MP and tribal leader Mansukh Vasava has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging that the zone be withdrawn to “mitigate the protests” of tribal communities.
Vasava’s letter comes on a day when the state government’s general administration department sanctioned two circles of management with a strength of 201 personnel for the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority, or SoU Tourism Authority (SoUTA). The personnel will be responsible for the operation and maintenance, water supply, sewage lines, roads, parking, lights as well as the decorative lighting in the area

Nearly 700 residents of Nandarkha village in Kalol taluka of Panchmahals district were shifted to a primary school after a fire broke out at a chemical factory located in the periphery of the village on Monday afternoon.
The remarks come days after an interfaith marriage triggered tension in Vadodara. The couple, both aged 23, had registered in a ‘nikahnama’ at a masjid in Mumbai after eloping earlier in December. When they returned to Vadodara on December 16 night, they had approached the Karelibaug police station over “threats” and palpable tension in their neighbourhood. The police counselled the couple and their families, and asked the couple to stay at their respective homes for a few days “to prevent law and order crisis”. Over Thursday and Friday, several BJP leaders, including MP Ranjan Bhatt, MLA Seema Mohile, party’s city president Dr Vijay Shah and former mayor Sunil Solanki met the woman and “counselled” her to call off the marriage.

Gujarat Energy Minister Saurabh Patel on Thursday alleged that Congress is using the farm laws as a “political opportunity” to attack the ruling BJP government at the Centre. The minister said that the Congress, which has been opposing the three farm laws, had, in its own election manifesto, promised regulations for farmers.
However, Patel added, the opposition party has been attacking the BJP due to its “frustration of not being able to come to power”.
In a media interaction in Vadodara, on a day when the BJP has started kisan sammelan across the state, Patel said, “Several divisive forces in New Delhi are trying to lead farmers astray regarding the reforms being brought in by the Narendra Modi-led government. But the government has kept its doors open for any reasoning and to clarify doubts of farmers regarding the laws.”
