Chapel Hill Police Investigating Legion Road Shooting The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a shooting into a Legion Road building late Sunday night. A release from the police department Monday afternoon said officers responded around 11:41 p.m. to the 1700 block of the street, which is off Ephesus Church Road. The release said no injuries were reported despite shots fired “into an occupied dwelling.” Chapel Hill Police said preliminary information suggests Sunday night’s shooting was not a random act and there does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the community’s safety. For the first time, woman visits site where her father died in Bedford County plane crash more than 70 years ago

SARAH HONOSKY The (Lynchburg) News & Advance HUDDLESTON — It was 71 years to the day her father died in a plane crash on a farm in Bedford County, and, on Tuesday, Kathleen Iacopetti stood by his memorial, wreath in hand, at the end of a cross-country journey that brought her to the site of her father’s death for the first time. On June 22, 1950, a production model AJ-1 bomber, the Navy’s first strike plane designed to carry the nuclear bomb, crashed en route to a naval air station along the Patuxent River in Maryland. The plane exploded in the air and fell in flames, killing its three crew members. Among them was 26-year-old James A. Moore Jr., a flight test engineer from California and a last-minute replacement on the final flight.
