ifredregill@altoonamirror.com Several skiers were evacuated from a malfunctioning ski lift Sunday at Blue Knob All Seasons Resort. About 5 p.m. Sunday, Blue Knob’s Route 66 double chair lift tower sensors detected a problem with one of the mechanism’s gears and halted the lift in place with skiers still on board, said Donna Himes, the resort’s marketing director. “If there is a problem with a lift’s motor, an auxillary motor will engage, allowing the skiers to get to their drop off location,” Himes said. “If the problem is with the tower, however, a safety switch flips and everything freezes in place. Essentially, what happened is everything worked as it should.”

Michael A. Stine, 38, was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Ben Jones on drug- and firearms-related charges, and he is currently detained at Blair County Prison on a $75,000 cash bail, according to court documents. Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, the motel’s owner flagged down a Logan Township police officer to discuss a complaint about a trespasser, police reported. While investigating the complaint, an officer initiated an interview with two men and a woman exiting a motel room, a criminal complaint stated. A second Logan Township officer arriving at the scene recognized one of the men as Stine, who had an open arrest warrant for narcotics charges, court documents stated.

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com An Altoona man is facing assault and trespassing charges after allegedly entering his estranged wife’s residence Wednesday and dragging her out of the home, court documents stated. Caleb M. Thompson, 39, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller and was detained at Blair County Prison until he posted a $10,000 cash bond Friday, according to court documents. Thompson allegedly burst into his estranged wife’s Fourth Avenue residence Wednesday and accused her of having a new boyfriend, police reported. The victim told police she and Thompson were separated, and she moved to the new residence to get away from Thompson, court documents stated.
