Clear Lake school board OKs $3 3M bids for gym vestibule, other projects

The Clear Lake Community School District will pay more than estimated for the next three projects included in its $18 million bond referendum. The Clear Lake Board of Education unanimously approved bids for the gym vestibule area, high school interior renovation and the high school parking lot expansion Tuesday evening during its meeting. Collectively, the approved bids for the projects total nearly $3.3 million, which is about $500,000 more than estimated by ATURA architecture. The largest difference was seen in the gym vestibule area, originally estimated at $1.7 million. Clear Lake Schools Superintendent Doug Gee, right, discusses the bids for the gym vestibule area, high school renovations and parking lot expansion projects with the school board Tuesday evening.

Founder s birthday events kindle hope for the future

Founder s birthday events kindle hope for the future Patrick Henry Abraham Lincoln, puzzled, asks, “Mary, is today my birthday or George Washington’s?” A cartoon from long ago reminds me that we of a certain age learned to distinguish between the first president’s Feb. 22 and the sixteenth’s Feb. 12. Kids today, given vacation on the third Monday in February, “Presidents’ Day,” find the cartoon unintelligible. I will remember Feb. 22, 2021, not because it was George Washington’s 289th birthday, but because it included three events – one on TV, the other two via Zoom – that are harbingers of a future that can be better than a return to “the old normal.” As economist Paul Romer once said, “A crisis is a terrible thing to waste.”
