Clear Lake looks to offer core diplomas for students at risk of not graduating

The Clear Lake Community School District is considering an option that would give students experiencing certain life circumstances the opportunity to graduate high school on time with their class. The Clear Lake Board of Education had its first reading of an updated graduation requirements policy that includes a core diploma earlier this month. File photo The diploma allows students who are behind in credits, who are enrolled in the alternative school and who meet other requirements outlined in the student handbook to earn fewer elective credits and still graduate from high school.

Clear Lake school board OKs nearly $66K in purchases

The three purchases — some related to referendum projects — total about $65,897. Here is a list and a brief description of each purchase: 1. Tank removal, $14,055 The school board approved the removal of an 8,000-gallon tank by NISS Excavation Inc., of Mason City, for a not-to-exceed $14,055. An 8,000-gallon underground kerosene tank located near the gym vestibule at Clear Lake High School is slated for removal as work on the adjoining wellness center progresses. Lisa Grouette The unregistered underground storage tank was installed in 1974 and was used for heating oil, a document from Terracon states. The steel tank, which is filled two-thirds with kerosene, is located in front of the south high school gym entrance, where the district’s new multimillion-dollar gym vestibule will be constructed this summer.
