Police squads active at 51 points within city limits A three-day special vehicle checking drive is under way in Kozhikode city to ensure that all motorists follow lockdown regulations. The drive ordered by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.V. George will ensure that no non-emergency service enters the city limits in the wake of the heightened vigil against the pandemic. A team of Assistant Commissioners and Station House Officers will lead the drive and instantly impound vehicles used for non-emergency purposes. Such impounded vehicles will be released only after the lockdown period on payment of the pre-fixed fine. The squads will also ensure that no emergency services are interrupted during the flash checking hours.

The authorities also detained seven people and imposed Rs 63,500 fine upon them for not wearing face masks. Talking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali said 1,616 shopping malls, 344 restaurants, 113 private schools, 45 marriage halls, seven private offices, a bus stand and four grocery shops were sealed and 132 vans were impounded and 952 people who were walking on highways and public places without face masks were arrested since March 15, 2021. He directed the Assistant Commissioners (ACs) to ensure implementation of coronavirus SOPs in letter and spirit.

Nine more corona patients die in Faisalabad National May 19, 2021 FAISALABAD: Nine more COVID-19 patients died in Faisalabad on Tuesday. According to a spokesperson for the health department, coronavirus death toll rose to 1,003 in the district and 68 people had tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours. He said 985 people had tested for coronavirus in public and private sector hospital during the same period. He said so far 18,058 patients had recovered from the disease while total active cases of coronavirus in Faisalabad reached 1,493. He said 339 beds were allocated at the Allied Hospital, 133 at the DHQ Hospital and 150 at General Hospital Ghulam Muhammadabad for COVID-19 patients. At present, 181 patients are getting treatment at the Allied Hospital, while 80 at DHQ hospital and 51 were admitted to General Hospital Ghulam Muhammadabad. Some 782 people have quarantined themselves at their homes.
