Courtesy photo First National Bank recently announced that it has made donations totaling $16,500 to 28 food pantries in the bank’s market area to celebrate the launch of its new program, Dream First Community. Dream First Community supports local businesses while helping tackle food insecurity in Maine. When a customer shops using their First National Bank VISA® Debit Card at partner local merchants, First National Bank donates money to local area food banks and customers become eligible to win gift cards to their favorite local businesses.

HYS pantry fundraising continues

Tue, 01/12/2021 - 2:00pm If shopping at Damariscotta Hannaford’s, please remember that St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry in Wiscasset is eager for people to buy reusable shopping bags for a cause. At $2.50 per bag, the pantry receives $1 for each bag bought. Not only will you be helping feed our food insecure population, but will also be helping the environment by keeping the single use bags out of the waste stream: a win-win, for sure. The Help Yourself Shelf at St. Philip’s in Wiscasset is open each Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 for drive-by assistance. Help Yourself Shelf named as Hannaford reusable bag beneficiary

Gretchen Burleigh-Johnson Thu, 12/24/2020 - 7:15am Help Yourself Shelf (HYS) food pantry in Wiscasset has been picked as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program for January 2021. The bag program, launched in April 2014, facilitates community support to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and \work. HYS was picked by store leadership at the Damariscotta Hannaford. HYS will receive a $1 donation every time the $2.50 reusable Fight Hunger Bag is bought at this location in January, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the giving tag attached to the bag. HYS is a nonprofit based at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St. Founded over 40 years ago, HYS has helped the food insecure who need a hand up, not a hand out.
