Today, we are gathered here to announce the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results. We are announcing these results in the context of what the NDP 2030, enjoins us to do, that “by 2030, South Africans should have access to education and training of the highest quality, leading to significantly improved learner outcomes. The performance of South African learners in international standardised tests, should be comparable to the performance of learners from countries at a similar level of development and with similar levels of access”.

It is without doubt that the 2020 academic year, will be remembered as the year that, not only presented major health challenges, but a year when the entire world was engulfed by the by the novel COVID-19 pandemic. Matric pass rate expected to be lower

WHILE this year s matric pass rate for state schools is expected to decline from the 81.3% recorded in 2019, teacher unions and education experts predict there will not be a drastic drop in the quality of pass rate.
Department of Basic Education (DBE) Minister Angie Motshekga is expected to release the 2020 National Senior Certificate exam results today, and district results will be announced tomorrow.
The Independent Examinations Board National Senior Certificate (NSC) recorded a 98.07% pass rate, slightly lower than the 2019 pass rate of 98.82%.
This comes as quality assurer Umalusi last week gave the green light for the release of the results.

MINISTER of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is set to announce the much-awaited matric results on Monday, 22 February.
The quality assurance body Umalusi gave the department a nod to release the results on Monday last week.
This was despite the leaking of two exam question papers.
Maths Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2 were leaked two hours before they could be written.
The department said the leak didn’t compromise the exams.
However, it said candidates found to be guilty of cheating will have to face the consequences after investigations are done.
Matric results approved by Umalusi: Here’s when it will be released
Matric results are days away from being released. The DBE has, in the meantime, congratulated learners that worked tirelessly to achieve success.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has welcomed the approval of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) matric results by the Quality Council for General and Further Education and Training, Umalusi.
“The year 2020 has been an extremely challenging year for learners, educators, administrators and parents, and therefore the approval of the results of this class has an added significance,” the department said in a statement.
