MINISTER of Basic Education Angie Motshekga is set to announce the much-awaited matric results on Monday, 22 February.
The quality assurance body Umalusi gave the department a nod to release the results on Monday last week.
This was despite the leaking of two exam question papers.
Maths Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2 were leaked two hours before they could be written.
The department said the leak didn’t compromise the exams.
However, it said candidates found to be guilty of cheating will have to face the consequences after investigations are done.
Matric results approved by Umalusi: Here’s when it will be released
Matric results are days away from being released. The DBE has, in the meantime, congratulated learners that worked tirelessly to achieve success.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has welcomed the approval of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) matric results by the Quality Council for General and Further Education and Training, Umalusi.
“The year 2020 has been an extremely challenging year for learners, educators, administrators and parents, and therefore the approval of the results of this class has an added significance,” the department said in a statement.

JOHANNESBURG – While the full extent of the 2020 matric exam paper leaks may never be known, an investigation found no evidence of major collusion among matriculants.
The Maths and Physical Science papers were leaked in November hours before pupils sat for the exams.
The Basic Education Department launched an extensive investigation to probe the full extent of the leaks.

It wasn’t enough that in 2020 South Africa found itself in the midst of a Covid-19 pandemic. Matriculants’ stress levels were compounded by the news of the deliberate leaking of two NSC exam papers in late 2020.

I was chatting with some grade 12 learners who had completed their Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (NSC) or matriculation exams. They said they were not sure which was worse: to immediately repeat the Maths Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2 examinations, which were leaked, or to wait until early 2021 for Umalusi to decide on the credibility and integrity of the NSC.
