Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) report of GMP found failings such as the force losing records of 80,000 cases. Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, who was in charge of the force for five years, stepped down after the report on Friday. The Greater Manchester Crime Support Line will provide support to victims who may have concerns about how their crime has been recorded by GMP or if they would like support to help them cope and recover.

A new helpline offering support services to victims of crime in Greater Manchester has been launched today (Monday).
It follows an announcement made by the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and Deputy Mayor Bev Hughes last week after the publication of Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS)’s damning report Greater Manchester Police - Victim Service Assessment (VSA) .

The chief of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is stepping down after the force was placed in special measures for failing to record more than 80,000 crimes in the space of a year.
Ian Hopkins, who served in his role for 13 years, said in a statement he was due to retire next summer but that because of his current ill health and the impending implementation of the force’s “long-term strategic plan”, he would leave with immediate effect.

A higher proportion of violent crime was not recorded, including domestic abuse and harassment, stalking and coercive control.
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services last week said it was “deeply troubled” by how cases were closed without proper investigation.
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “These are challenging times for Greater Manchester Police.
