HIGH prevalence of Covid means new variants of the virus like the highly contagious strain ravaging the south-east of England are more likely, a Scottish Government adviser has said.
At least nine cases of the variant have been discovered in Scotland so far - concentrated in the Glasgow area - with Boris Johnson warning earlier that the strain spreads up to 70 per cent faster than existing versions of the bug.

BRITAIN S Pfizer Covid vaccine will run out in weeks - with no new stock until March, Jeremy Hunt has warned today.
Mr Hunt today claimed the vaccine stocks would only last until the end of January, with hopes we will have the Oxford/Astrazeneca jab by then to cover the shortfall.

Speaking to the Today programme, Mr Hunt said: It (the Oxford jab being rolled out) will make a massive difference because the doses that we have of the Pfizer vaccine will keep us going until the end of January and I think we re not getting another shipment until March.

THE chief constable of Greater Manchester Police has quit after the force was put in special measures.
It failed to record more than 80,000 crimes in a year.

A higher proportion of violent crime was not recorded, including domestic abuse and harassment, stalking and coercive control.
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services last week said it was “deeply troubled” by how cases were closed without proper investigation.
Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “These are challenging times for Greater Manchester Police.

Cops are probing the unexplained death after she was discovered by a painter at the Pay and Sleep hostel in Southall, West London.

Neighbours had reportedly detected a “foul odour” that had lasted for around two weeks.
Tributes have flooded in for the woman after the grim discovery was made yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was described by another resident as a beautiful Polish woman in her 40s.
The resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: She was a beautiful woman.
