NYPD Sgt James P Bast, Who Dies From 9/11-related Illness

Photo: Town of Islip. NYPD Sgt. James P. Bast, who died from 9/11-related illness was honored on April 7 by the Town of Islip with a street in Sayville named after him. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg was on hand for the ceremony. Sgt. Bast worked on Bloomberg s security detail when he retired after  23 years of service with the NYPD. South Shore Hospital Pays Tribute to Workers and Those Lost to Covid-19

A year after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore (SSUH formerly Southside Hospital) held a ceremony to honor its staff and remember those lost due to the disease. The ceremony took place in the hospital s Heroes Garden, in advance of New York’s Day of Remembrance, Sunday, March 14.     Donna Moravick, Executive Director of SSUH said that the healthcare workers gave their patients dignity and should be proud of themselves.   We should never forget all the people we have lost in this building, and all of the people we have lost personally,” she said. “I really believe that these healthcare workers are all here to serve an unbelievable purpose, something we will never forget.”

Last year, the Long Island airport was voted the number six small airport in the US, according to the reader poll on the USA Today website.   Readers can vote to make it one of the top ten best small airports in the country.   The nominees were released on January 6 and voting will continue through February 1.
