Higher Learning Opportunities
Central High School offers a variety of Higher Learning Opportunities for students including Running Start and Dual Enrollment for potential college credit, as well as Advanced Placement and Interdisciplinary courses. These opportunities allow students to customize their learning and get a head start on college with our rigorous academic offerings.

Turner students take advantage of dual enrollment

Junior and senior students at Turner High school have been attending dual enrollment courses this school year, earning both high school and college credits. Dual enrollment is offered every year in Montana and many students earn general education credits at a free or discounted rate while in high school. The classes are general education classes and in Montana the first two are free, after that the classes are reduced price from regular tuition. Turner Public Schools Superintendent Tony Warren said dual enrollment gives students a chance to take an entry level class in a field they are.

What did former Nevada Governor Paul Laxalt and millionaire business magnate and philanthropist Howard Hughes have in common?
For Nevadans, the two powerful men were directly responsible for the creation of community colleges in the state.
When Laxalt became Nevada’s governor in 1967, he followed through on his campaign and formed a council to study the feasibility of creating a community college system. However, despite the governor’s vision and support from key political leaders, a proposed state community college system was rejected because the legislature was concerned that it would dilute funding for public schools, as well as its universities located in Reno and Las Vegas.

After her classes transitioned to online formats during the Spring 2020 semester, Abigail Coleman found she missed talking with her classmates about an assignment or book before or after class and making small talk around campus. Understanding the need for social interactions between students, Middlesex Community College developed a resource called Study Buddies that allows classmates to connect with each other outside of class.
Coleman – who lives in Carlisle – took most of her courses in-person before the pandemic. Although the transition challenged her in some ways, she enjoys the creative tools her professors use to help students be successful in class. In one course, her professor put students in different breakout rooms each class so that they always meet with a new partner.
