ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Monday ruled that the local governments’ offices in Punjab were political governments and had fundamental right, as provided in the Constitution, to run for their duration, as provided by the law.
The court held that the province had no power to cancel local governments (LGs), created under Article 140A of the Constitution. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsen and Justice Syed Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, announced a detailed judgment in the petitions challenging the Punjab Local Bodies Act 2019.
The court, on March 25, had restored the local government system in Punjab and declared Section 3 of the Punjab Local Bodies Act 2019 as ultra vires to the Constitution. The Punjab Local Government Act 2019 was passed by the provincial legislature in May, 2019.
LAHORE: The last phase of hiring of consultant for preparation of the Lahore Master Plan 2050 has been completed as a sub-committee has finished the review of technical proposals submitted by three shortlisted companies before submitting its report to the consultant selection committee.
Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Ahmed Aziz Tarar chaired a meeting of the consultant selection committee on Monday.
The meeting was informed three consortia, including Darul Hindsa (Lebanon), Mine Heart (Singapore) and Nespak (Pakistan), had been shortlisted out of the seven companies, which had expressed their interest in preparation of the master plan.
The meeting was informed significant progress had been made in preparation of the Lahore Master Plan 2050 and in the last phase of the process for hiring of consultant, the review of technical proposals submitted by the three shortlisted companies had been completed.
Govt Finalizes Consultants for Lahore Master Plan 2050
In a meeting of the Consultant Selection Committee chaired by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director-General, Ahmed Aziz Tarar, the last phase of hiring consultants for the new Master Plan for Lahore was completed. A sub-committee, tasked with overseeing proposals presented by the three shortlisted companies, submitted its report to the selection committee for a final recommendation.
Dar-ul Hindsa (Lebanon), Mine Heart (Singapore), and NESPAK (Pakistan) were the final three companies shortlisted from a pool of seven.
