Asiana Airlines appoints new CEO in executive reshuffle |
Asiana Airlines named Jung Sung-kwon as the new CEO in a major executive reshuffle on Thursday.
Jung, who previously served as the head of the airline’s China operations, will replace current CEO Han Chang-soo to lead the country‘s second-largest carrier.
Born in 1963, Jung joined Asiana in 1988 and had taken on multiple roles including finance and human resources.
In the shakeup, Ahn Byung-suk, Asiana Airline‘s management director, has been tapped to head Air Busan, its sister budget airline.
Cho Jin-man, who served as executive manager at Air Seoul, another sister airline, has been promoted to the CEO at the low cost carrier.

Two major alcohol companies in Korea have one thing in common lately a high-profile retro mascot that has become the face of the company.
Oriental Brewery brought back its nostalgic bear character from the 1980s known as “Lala Bear,” while its rival HiteJinro released a blue bottled soju featuring its famous toad mascot last year, a character that dates to 1954.
Their foray into soft power territory comes following a year dominated by “Pengsoo,” a beloved giant penguin that went from being an educational TV channel’s mascot to a cultural icon here.

Thom Browne to launch perfume line in Korea |
US fashion brand Thom Browne said on Tuesday it will launch its perfume line in Korea.
A total of six perfumes will be released, including “09.27.65 Eau de Parfum,” also known as Vetyver Absolute, and “09.27.65.01 Eau de Parfum,” which is also called the Vetyver and Cucumber.
The fragrances contain a high concentration of Haitian Vetyver oil and its vetyver blend serves as the base signature of the products.
The names reference designer Thom Browne’s birthday of Sept. 27, 1965.
“With the launching of the fragrance collection, we hope to build a closer relationship with Korean customers and plan to expand our lifestyle business,” said an official at Samsung C&T Corp., the South Korean distributor of the fashion brand.
