ENSURING a more effective response to crime in the stateâs fastest growing region is all a matter of getting your priorities right.
Ipswich District Superintendent David Cuskelly said the response to the recent announcement of a realignment of the way police respond to calls for service had been received eagerly within his ranks.
The regionâs top cop says the new system will free up frontline officers for preventive and disruptive operations, instead of being caught up in non-urgent or administrative work.
âThis is all driven by demand management,â Superintendent Cuskelly said.
âThere is a lot of demand on the police as we know, which is why Commissioner Katarina Carroll initiated a review when she first came in.â
She said many incidents were likely to occur on both long and winding stretches of road across the southeast typically frequented by recreational riders.
“It’s vitally important to ride so you and your motorcycle can be seen by other road users.”
“Don’t bank on other motorists seeing you; take your safety into your control.
It was also equally important for drivers to monitor their own road behaviour. A 25-year-old man was critically injured after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle at Grandchester earlier this month. Picture: RACQ LifeFlight Rescue
“As a driver in a car, your moment of distraction on a mobile phone might mean a bit of car damage, but it can be as serious as the death of a fellow road user,” she said.
