IOWA CITY The man charged with fatally shooting an Iowa State Patrol sergeant earlier this month was later shot in the head and chest by other state troopers after he opened fire on them, a prosecutor said Monday.

DES MOINES Iowa public safety officials said Friday that security concerns have prompted the state to build a wrought iron fence around Terrace Hill, the historic Des Moines mansion that serves as the governor’s private residence.
“Terrace Hill serves as the family home for our governors and their families, and we need to provide the safest environment possible for them. These enhancements are part of an overall state initiative to improve the security footprint at our state facilities,” Iowa Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephan Bayens said in a statement.

Construction on a brand new medical facility in Marshalltown will soon begin.
Ground has broken on the $18 million McFarland Clinic being built near East Merle Hibbs Boulevard on the south side of town.
McFarland Clinic employees, partners and friends gathered at the nine acres large construction site Thursday to commemorate work beginning next week.
“For the past 25 years the clinic has worked to build a cohesive community of health care professionals dedicating their careers to providing for patients they care for in Marshalltown,” McFarland Clinic CEO Andrew Perry. “Today we’re celebrating the next phase of that commitment by investing in a 60,000 square foot medical facility that will provide primary care and specialty care services for years to come.”
