IRS chief expects new child payments to start this summer | News, Sports, Jobs

The Associated Press WASHINGTON It’s a strain, but the head of the IRS said Tuesday he expects to meet the July 1 deadline in the new pandemic relief law for starting a groundbreaking tax program aimed at reducing child poverty. That means new advance monthly payments of as much as $300 per child could begin flowing to lower-income families this summer. In testimony at a Senate hearing, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig said it will cost nearly $400 million and require the hiring of 300 to 500 people to get the new monthly payment system and electronic portal in place for the child tax credit. “The IRS will be working hard to deliver this program quickly and efficiently,” he said.

Then he mentioned two other Iowa law enforcement officers who committed suicide in the last week. If she can prove Marshalltown considers Riverside more than just a cemetery, there is a chance to appeal a decision FEMA made to deny them derecho-related funding. There might be a chance Riverside Cemetery could get some help from FEMA for paying for derecho-related damages. Riverside Cemetery General Manager Dorie Tammen received a letter at the end of March from FEMA, informing her there would be no funds coming. After the Times-Republican covered the denial on Thursday, she received a call from the Iowa Homeland Security office, explaining why the cemetery was denied funding. She said he told her there might be a chance to appeal and reverse the decision if Riverside could prove the value of the historical location as something more than just a cemet

Times-Republican AP Photo The Marshalltown Police Department warns of current scam where a perpetrator claiming to be an Amazon representative calls unsuspecting individuals over the phone and claim that the individual has made a purchase on their Amazon account ranging from $500 to $1,500. The perpetrator then explains that if the individual does not make good on their account that Amazon will turn their claim over to the fraud division of the Federal Trade Commission. A new scam variation has appeared locally regarding Amazon.com, according to the Marshalltown Police Department. The scam works like this: a perpetrator claiming to be an Amazon representative, calls unsuspecting individuals over the phone and claim that the individual has made a purchase on their Amazon account ranging from $500 to $1,500.
