Vani Devi with PV Narasimha Rao
HYDERABAD: Surabhi Vani Devi, daughter of the late former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, will make her electoral debut as a TRS candidate from Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy-Mahbubnagar Graduates MLC constituency on March 14.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to field her is a coup of sorts with both the BJP and the Congress trying to claim the legacy of Telangana’s iconic leader PV Narasimha Rao.
Analysts said that now both BJP and Congress will have to rework their strategies as opposing PV’s daughter would be a difficult affair for them.
An artist, educationist and social activist, she is the founder president of several educational institutions, including those on pharmacy, architecture, fine arts colleges and schools.
K Srisailam Goud
HYDERABAD: The primary opposition Congress in Telangana received another jolt on Sunday, as former MLA and party s Medchal Malkajgiri district unit president K Srisailam Goud on Sunday announced his decision to quit the party and would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) later during the day.
Goud said he was resigning from party posts and the primary membership of the party.
He stated that he was pained to see the party s position in the state during the last six years.
Goud said despite being in the opposition, the Congress failed to take up people s issues.
Goud, along with some BJP leaders, left for New Delhi on Sunday.
“After learning about it, governments of Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh too have expressed interest in starting similar courses. Hopefully they will begin soon,” said Samala Venu, a popular illusionist who initiated the launch of the course. His objective: to make magic a serious profession that’s not just seen as a ploy by fake performers to cheat people. “Apart from Telangana, we have had students from these states too who come here to study magic,” he added.
At present, most lessons in magic are limited to online courses or workshops, typically spread over 7 to 10 days. Internationally too, it is often part of a larger stream of study. “It (magic) is part of a cultural studies course taught in a few places,” said author John Zubrzycki, who’s book, Jadoowallahs, Jugglers and Jinns, was released in 2018.
