An army of recreational anglers and 15 community volunteers worked together to clean up almost 10 bags of rubbish along Illawong Beach to Far Beach.
The OzFish volunteers, who got dirty for their annual Clean Up Australia Day event, removed a range of litter from the local waterways including countless plastic bottles from the dunes and a wooden door.

FISH habitat restoration is to be boosted in Central Queensland with OzFish Unlimited announcing the establishment of its newest chapter in Mackay.
The newly established Mackay Chapter of the national not-for-profit will lead a beach clean-up for Clean Up Australia Day - Sunday 7 March at Far Beach at 9am as its first project
“Keeping our beaches and inland rivers and estuaries litter free is not just the responsibility of fishers and boaters, it’s a wider community issue,” Mackay Chapter President Matt Moore said.
“We’re asking local recreational fishers and the community to roll up their sleeves, give us an hour of their weekend and help clean-up our beloved Far Beach.”
The wavelets mystery has engaged the Mackay community and there are now whispers all over town about their possible location.
Daily Mercury edition where it described the second ever celebration of the day in this town. In his speech, he said Mackay first marked Australia Day in 1933 with a banquet and social evening. The report of the 1934 Australia Day in the Mercury was great to read, he said. Tennis and cricket matches were held - boating and swimming in the river was popular as were picnics at all the beaches. So things haven t changed much really. The report said that with the return of the 12-foot tides in the morning, the conditions down by the wavelets were ideal .
