An army of recreational anglers and 15 community volunteers worked together to clean up almost 10 bags of rubbish along Illawong Beach to Far Beach.
The OzFish volunteers, who got dirty for their annual Clean Up Australia Day event, removed a range of litter from the local waterways including countless plastic bottles from the dunes and a wooden door.
It is unknown what type of marine stinger caused the envenomation. This comes days after news a Far North teenager was tragically killed following a box jellyfish sting while fishing on the Cape York. The 17-year-old boy died in hospital on Monday, and is believed to be the first in 15 years to be fatal stung by a box jellyfish. Generic pic of a box jellyfish. A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman confirmed two teen boys had been taken to hospital following the stings, which occurred at 1.12pm Saturday. The boys were taken by Queensland Ambulance Service to hospital in a stable condition.
