A 2-year-old girl who was a blessing to everyone around her. These are the four people who were killed May 4 when an airplane flown by 67-year-old Dr. Louis Provenza crashed into the home of 55-year-old Gerry Standley. Also on board the plane were 23-year-old Anna Calhoun and her daughter, Harper Provenza.

Around 3 p.m., Petal police responded to the call near Moore Funeral Home. According to reports, a vehicle pulled out in front of the first bus, prompting the driver to slam on the brakes. The second bus, behind the first one, was not able to stop in time, causing the two buses to collide.

(WDAM) - Multiple reports are surfacing about a scammer calling Pine Belt residents and impersonating the Petal Fire Department. The caller is soliciting advertisements to make money for the local first responders. The Petal Fire Department wants all residents to know that this is not them. “If you get the phone call, try to get as much information that you can get from them,” said Battalion Chief Carlton Sims. “Call the police department, Petal Police Department or Forrest County, and let them know. Let them take it further, because we aren’t going to call you and ask for money over the phone.”

Victim, suspect identified in deadly shooting in Hattiesburg

His alleged killer was his girlfriend s son, according to Hattiesburg Police Department spokesman Ryan Moore. Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victim as 30-year-old Curtis McGee of Jackson. No other injuries were reported in the shooting. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Walgreens at Hardy Street and Weathersby Road. When officers arrived, McGee was found dead at the scene, Moore said in a news release. Shortly after, Moore said, 23-year-old Jacquille Graves of Braxton was taken into custody in Petal. He was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault.  Graves was booked into Forrest County Jail.
