BOSTON “Lying, cheating, stealing and shakedowns. That’s what this case is about,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Hafer on the first day of testimony in the Jasiel Correia II trial. “You will hear there was a price to pay in Fall River.
Witness testimony began Monday in the 24-count case of the United States versus Jasiel Correia II, whose fate will be decided by a jury that includes 11 women and three men.
In opening arguments, Hafer came out swinging as he laid out highlights to the jury regarding the case against 29-year-old Correia.
In his opening statement, defense attorney Kevin Reddington called into question “the legitimacy of witness testimony.” Three former associates have taken plea deals in exchange for their cooperation with the federal government for their role in an alleged extortion scheme hatched by the former mayor to take money from marijuana companies looking to do business in Fall River.
Pflugerville school district officials said he died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Schonhar was the offensive coordinator for the football team, the girls head track coach and a PE teacher. Before coaching at Connally, he also coached at Stony Point High. For the past 3.5 years, Todd Schonhar has been a valued and beloved member of the Pflugerville ISD and Connally High School family, said district spokesperson Tamra Spence. We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing and extend our sincerest condolences to Mr. Schonhar s family and all those he touched throughout his teaching career.
Spence said the district is not aware of any other employees who have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
True freshman offensive lineman Trent Pullen, a three-star offensive guard from Texas who signed with Oklahoma State as part of its 2020 recruiting class, has entered the transfer portal, according to Rivals.com.
Pullen did not play in a game this season and, like every other freshman offensive line signee in the 2020 class, redshirted in the 2020 season.
OSU scooped Pullen up out of Waco’s Connally High School in Texas. He was the second-highest ranked recruit of the class last cycle, rated by 247Sports as the No. 30 player at his position and nationally as the 553rd best prospect overall. He picked OSU over offers from Arkansas, LSU, Baylor, Kansas State and others.
