AUSTIN, Texas The Todd Schonhar Memorial Scholarship fund is now taking donations for students in honor of the late Pflugerville ISD football coach.
Todd Schonhar was 57 years old when he died from COVID-19 in January and his wife is asking people to donate to the non-profit memorial scholarship instead of sending flowers or gifts, according to a Facebook post. Todd was well known for his dry wit and sense of humor but, most importantly, his ability to teach perseverance and compassion to his many students. In addition to developing students and athletes, his ultimate goal was to prepare young people to be contributing and successful adults and citizens, the scholarship website states.
Pflugerville school district officials said he died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Schonhar was the offensive coordinator for the football team, the girls head track coach and a PE teacher. Before coaching at Connally, he also coached at Stony Point High. For the past 3.5 years, Todd Schonhar has been a valued and beloved member of the Pflugerville ISD and Connally High School family, said district spokesperson Tamra Spence. We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing and extend our sincerest condolences to Mr. Schonhar s family and all those he touched throughout his teaching career.
Spence said the district is not aware of any other employees who have died after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
