Haji, 80, died at the Aga Khan University Hospital on Monday morning.
According to family members, the Senator was flown from Turkey a fortnight ago and later admitted at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, where he died Monday morning.
Haji was a long time administrator who served in various areas including the vast Rift Valley between 1970 and 1998. He was nominated to Parliament in 2002. And in 2007, he was elected to Parliament unopposed as Ijara MP.

Haji was the Minister of Defence from 2008 to 2013 during Mwai Kibaki s administration and briefly served as the acting Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012.

He was aged 80.
Mr Haji was also the chairperson of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force.
Mr Haji joined Kenya’s provincial administration in 1960 as a district officer (DO) and rose through the ranks to become one of the country’s most powerful provincial commissioners.
He retired from the provincial administration in 1998.
In 2002, he was nominated to Parliament and in 2007, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Ijara Constituency on a Kenya African National Union (Kanu) ticket.

Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji was yesterday buried at the Lang ata cemetery in Nairobi, hours after his death.
Haji, 80, died at Aga Khan Hospital after a long illness. The long-serving politician and career civil servant had returned to the country a few days earlier from Turkey, where he was on treatment.
Mourners made their way to his residence tucked away on Riverside Drive in Nairobi, while others converged in Ijara, the constituency where the senator was born. He represented Ijara in the National Assembly for three terms.
