And now, the automotive industry is getting ready for a new massive upgrade, as HERE has joined forces with Leia and Continental to offer 3D maps as pre-loaded software for automotive OEMs.
More specifically, HERE will contribute with HERE Premier 3D cities, a platform providing access to highly accurate 3D map data. Earlier this month, HERE announced a large update that brings 3D models of 75 city centers across the world, with structures accurately reproduced with physical location, volume, elevation, and façade color information.
Leia will provide the Lightfield Automotive Software Development Kit, while Continental will supply the display solution, with the mix eventually supposed to provide OEMs with a modern navigation experience that comes pre-loaded with the car and therefore doesn’t require other applications.

Deutsche Bahn has announced a digital rail project called Sensors4Rail whose purpose is to help test sensor-based train localization and environment recognition. While this might sound like rocket science at first, the idea behind this project is much simpler.
The Germans want their trains to get smarter, so they’re installing sensors and other hardware that would help collect data and allow for two-way communications to improve the overall efficiency. This would allow the local authorities to increase the railway system capacity, too, as more trains would be able to run on tracks simultaneously and operate more efficiently with zero risks.
